I DARE YOU

                                               The Proverbs Challenge

We are all busy and yet we all spend time in God’s Word daily or at least admit that we should. So I am going to make this challenge easy to follow.  In the upcoming month of May or for those eager to start now, read one chapter of Proverbs everyday.  With 31 days in May and 31 chapters in Proverbs—you simply read the chapter that corresponds to that day of the month.  Proverbs can be read in the middle to the end and beginning to the middle so you can start today or wait until May 1st.

This book was mainly credited to Solomon with the additions of Agur (30:1-33) and King Lemuel (31:1-9) with additional authors implied in 22:17 and 24:23.  The unifying theme of Proverbs is “wisdom for right living” a wisdom that begins with  humble submission to God—accepting salvation through him and his lordship in your life.

When that is complete—it will flow into every area of your life. Wisdom is having a wise and discerning heart that sees and evaluates everything from God’s point of view.  It is found through prayer, the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit and a diligent search of Scripture to learn God’s ways.

Will you join me in the Proverbs Challenge?  Shoot me a comment and let me know who is in.  Point out a verse that stood out to you and how you were able to apply it in your life.  Better yet—share it with a co-worker, friend, family or a stranger.  Tell them what it meant to you and how it changed  your life. Wisdom is meant to be shared.

                                                                I dare you

Six of us so far . I'm praying for direction from God on how this is going to go. I know his will is for us to know him and his ways better, so all these wonderful words of wisdom in Proverbs are going to affect our lives in a powerful way and those around us as we share.

The easy part is to read it -the hard part is to apply it to our lives and make changes.

I beg to differ, Kath...

If we ask the Lord to help us make those changes...it won't be so difficult....

Tomorrow we start with Proverbs 1.  Thursday,  we buried my girlfriend's husband who hung himself leaving behind his wife and 2 young jr high girls. I am anxious to study about wisdom anticipating all the things that will come out from our study that I can share with her thru the month. See you all tomorrow right here.

I would love to participate! Is it too late? If so, I'll read along anyway- Bookmarked!

Not too late - anyone can start at anytime in the month.  You will always know we are on the chapter that is the same as that day's date.

I did my reading for the day - how about everyone else? I mentor teens and the verses that stood out were  Proverbs 1: 10-19 about peer pressure but also for me 5 let the wise (that is me, hopefully) listen and add to their learning.

I did my reading for the day as well and I would have to agree with you on verses 10-19. Our world has become so influenced by peer pressure and we have become so accepting of things that are not in His Word. When we make choices without seeking Him first, we can be easily led astray.   I will take from this chapter the attitude of not just accepting the choices and decisions of the world. I will seek the Word of God, for true wisdom and knowledge.

Hi Kathleen,

I've been doing this for years.  Great idea to get out to everyone.

Welcome all -we are on Proverbs 7 and if you haven't yet posted your name as accepting the challenge, please do so at any time of the month even if you join later.  I feel that it holds you accountable.

Wow- chapter after chapter here on guarding your heart especially against sexual immorality - it is there so I'll discuss it.

6:23-33 his shame will never be wiped away ---Tho the sin of adultery can be forgiven as with all other sins, in this one the shame remains for the scars are never completely removed.  That is the big problem with sin- the effect on those around us and the consequences that remain. At the time those aren't the things that we are thinking about  - we are "in the moment".

Because of these far-reaching and horrifying consequences on all involved - we need to run (thats it strap on your running sandals)  from every  temptation and don't put your self in situations that could lead to this sin.

1-be firml;y committed to all that God says is right and good

2- don't go there - not in body, thoughts, eyes, etc - what do you read, what do you watch, what do you think about?

3-understand that this sin leads to sorrow, regret, and death

Be like Joseph in Genesis 39 - he recognized that ultimately this was a sin against God.

Kathleen, thanks for the synopsis. I must say that when you read God's Word and know what the principles are, it helps you get through those times when you may be tempted to make bad decisions.

Today is the 18th so we are on Proverbs 18.  We just post something when it hits us and I put something on weekly.. It isn't like we really know how to pull this off on the internet so I just hope everyone is (silently) doing their readings. Speak up people!!!

We will just learn as we go and perhaps can come up with a fab way of conducting a Bible Study on AR. God knows the heart!

I posted some proverbs on Real Estate Proverbs.

How is everyone else doing on their study?

Today is May 23 - so we are on Proverbs 23. Post something if you feel inclined to share a nugget of wisdom, how you used something you learned, what stood out to you.

Proverbs 25...things that touched me......

4 Take away dross for silver and you have a vessel fit for the refiner....take away the wicked from the righteous and your life will be established...... (my paraphrase).....

A good word spoken at the right time is like apples of gold in settings of silver.....VERY pretty and valuable to say the least!!

He boasts of gifts and talents he does not have is like looking at rain clouds and having no rain...it does nothing for them who hear it....

Have you found honey (something sweet in your life)? Eat just enopugh of if or you will vomit....(Just like Ecclessiasties which says aviod all extremes)......

A righteous man who gives way to evil is like a muddied stream or a polluted well.....THE WATER IS NOT FIT TO DRINK FROM (So STAND YOUR GROUND)

Those are the verses that touched my heart today......... =-)

Thank you for those Alexander - I'm glad you found your way here.  On Proverbs 23:31-35 I was thinking about how when we look away from God & stare at the things around us and what others have it starts to draw us in.It is subtle and we don't even notice that it is happening.
Posted by Kathleen Lordbock Keller Williams Realty Brainerd Lakes ( KW REALTOR/Staging & Short Sale Specialist) over 3 years ago

Yes Kath.........the temptation of what others have is subtle...BUT OUR desires are what do that...simple to take care of...LOVE the Lord more than anything and anyone!!

Christianity can be so simple if we let it, hmm?

=-)

Can we start this again the first of June through the 1st of July?  I missed out on it this time month.  Just found my way back to AR after months of being lost in cyberspace.

 Welcome Mary!!!!

Cyberspace sounds scary.

What does everyone else want - do Proverbs over or start something new?

Type it out I can't read minds....

My impressions for the 28th of May.....

The wicked flee...which COULD include making a stand for a wrong way of living, even though no-one has said anything to them......and no-one pursues them...their conscience bothers them.....

Those who forsake or have forsaken the way of God PRAISE the wicked..... and that strengthens the wicked persons perception of them being "right' in what they do..... man...how many people do YOU know who are doing this to "leaders who do wrong".......wow....

The evil person does NOT understand righteousness...to them it is folly and stupidity........

He who turns away from hearing and living Gods word....that persons prayer is NOT heard by God....ANOTHER scorcher!!!!

He who hides sin does not prosper...BUT those who confess AND forsake sin prosper and find compassion from God.....

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool...(contrary to popular beliefs in the world out there) but he who walks wisely is delivered.....

The kitchen is HOT with these........ wow!!!

Can you stand it?  =-)

You are cooking today - Alexander Harb.

Just think how hot it is in Hell .

Proverbs 26:27

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.

Modern Day sayings that may correspond:

What goes around, comes around.

Shooting yourself in the foot.

What you give out, you get back.

Open mouth, insert foot.

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Proverbs 30:11-14 There is a generation that curses its father and does not bless its mother. There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet it is not washed from its filthiness.  There is a generation - oh, how lofty are their eyes!...There is a generation whose teeth are like swords...

 Are we that generation?

This is a great challenge Kathleen.  My husband & I have been doing this for a year & I remain amazed at how many times, the wisdom shared in a chapter has been so pertinent to the events of the day.

Ahhhh, last day and we have THE VIRTUOUS WIFE now that leaves me with a lot to strive for.

Thanks for hanging in there, I hope everyone  rose up to meet the ""Challenge" and if not now you have a whole month to read the Proverbs you missed.

God bless you and keep you and may his face shine upon yours (paraphrase by Kathleen)  - look up!!
