This is for all the Active Rain members who live in warm sunny states and are really missing out on what Minnesota has to offer in the winter. I know some of you used to live here, but for one reason or another (surely not the weather) moved on to other places. Some of you live here in the summer, but then escape well before the first snowflake softly floats down from the sky. Some would call you snowbirds, others call you chicken.
Meanwhile, as we live and work and breathe here in the frosty wilderness - there are moments to reflect upon why we stay.
When it's Christmas in Minnesota,
And the gentle breezes blow,
About seventy miles an hour
And its fifty-two below,
You can tell you're in Minnesota
'Cause the snow's up to your butt. ~photo by Zanastardust
You take a breath of Christmas air
And your nostrils both freeze shut.
The weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around,
I could never leave Minnesota--
My feet are frozen to the ground!

Jackie- Just like staging - a matter of perspective, at times - and then there are those COLD hard facts !!!
Keep warm, meme.
Brrr! I lived in Pittsburgh for a few years, and that was snowy enough for this native Texan! Glad to be back in the warm weather. It WAS a magical sight after the first snowfall, though! And we had plenty of Texas visitors from Thanksgiving through New Years. Seeing bunny prints in the snow was great for the kids, drying out all the kids snowy clothes was not fun for this mom.
Glad we had the winter experience & also glad that the Pennsylvania folks were kind enough not to make fun of the southern accent!

Kathleen, funny poem. Enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Gary - hope you are enjoying the snow there as well. My Mom was from Alpha, MI near Crystal Falls and Iron Mountain.
I will be there - had my mother-in-law in the ER today and now back home so hopefully she will be all better by then.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone .
Had to search for the comment I made previously so could see your response. Oh dear..I'm so sorry Kathleen! You'll have to fill me in more tomorrow about your mother in law. We'll say some prayers everything continues to go well for her.
Drive safe!!!
