Life Lessons ~ Part 2

 fish by katemere

You are enjoying your job and things are going well - until a door slams shut, a deal falls through, a contract has loopholes and your client goes through them.  You find yourself contemplating: becoming a hermit, taking a vacation permanently, going back to school and becoming a Climatologist.  All these may be the correct choices for you, but you need to listen to others who are wiser and unemotionally involved in the situation. Don't be afraid or too proud to ask for advice.  Find a good mentor and be one.

"There is nothing wrong with holding an opinion and holding it passionately.  But at those times when you're absolutely sure that you are right, go find somebody who disagrees.  Don't allow yourself the easy course of the constant "Amen" to everything that you say."

~ Condoleezza Rice, United States Secretary of State                                                ~fish by katmere

Before taking action it is always wise to, "count to ten," or, "sleep on it." Most options will still be there in the morning, but they may a lot different in broad daylight.

Hi Kathleen,

Condoleezza is a smart lady!  We cannot expect things to go well all of the time--that is "life."  We get stronger with adversity--and learning how to constructively deal with it.

Sometimes it is good to talk to a friend who will give you a neutral opinion.  That can help tremendously.

Kathleen, This lesson is truly difficult. I was hoping they would get easier. Of course Ms Rice is correct about seeking someone who will not be a "yes man" to really get a good picture of the situation. But that course of action is so difficult! Thanks for the advice. I happen to agree. Is that OK this time?

I was thinking the other day my stomach was a bit queasy from a deal that was falling apart fast...I'd just like to throw up! Luckily the feeling passed and I got to the next moment. Days later the deal worked out. Our business is like that. Up and down and we just hang on. It's made me appreciate the days were everything runs smoothly.

Kathleen - I've learned the most in my life from friends who confronted me or disagreed. It caused me to think to deeper levels that I may not have gotten to if I'd just wanted to be right!

Another great post.

WOW Kathleen, I didn't know that Condi could say deep stuff :-)!  Actually, I think, having grown up in the military and having absolutely no constants in my life. its easy for me to take things that would otherwise disappoint.  Its very easy for me to move on and not dwell.  In fact, I have on several occassions been the "door slammer".  So that life lesson is something I learned at an early age and is ingrained in my DNA.  I have a diffucult time with people who won't "put on their big girl panties", because I wear mine all the time.  That is something I have to keep working on.  Horsies OK?

Hi Kathleen-

Good quote to ponder.  Whenever I think that everything is "under control" and going smoothly, something happens to show me that I am never really "in control". You have to trust that you can handle the unexpected & the mistakes along the way without feeling threatened...

Lizette - I know that feeling & it is not good. Takes me awhile to calm back down and realize "what was I so worried about anyway"

Kathy - Staging certainly can be and often is a very out of control job.  You really need to roll with the punches. You don't know what to expect showing up at a client's home and how much they will do or let you do......

or even how it all turned out if it for a consultation only.

Kathleen - I've been learning this one the hard way the for the last 6 years - with everything.  Well, not so hard anymore...most of the time ;o)

Kathleen..... I gotta tell you, sometimes I get too emotionally involved in some things.... I am learning to let go and let God take care of more of my life....... it hurts, but letting God be Himself is better than clinging to ideas i had as a child.....  =-)

Alexander - I am working on that very thing myself -  emotions are God given, but not given to run your life by.

God does all things better than we can, so we can relax.
