That was very thought provoking though I also looked like a 230lb baby when my wife walked in and saw me tearing up.  I did like the video, may I ask if there is a way that I can get it from you to send to someone whom I think needs it in there life.

 Cheers to your success,

Great story, and it reinforces how important it is to make that "connection" with those whose lives we touch.  You never know how some small act of kindness you offer someone can make their day....and this story brings it to life.

Kathleen, Thank you for sending me to the must see blog in this group. Of course I had to stop in and see this one too. Now you've done it. I had to log back in to comment. What a wonderful story. It does give one pause; doesn't it? Tears? Yes. Inspiration? Yes! Excellent post? Of course.

Yes, it is very inspiring and I wish it were really true but it is not. I think that Barbara Glanz has fabricated the story to sell her training videos (which go for $1000!)

Barbara claims that the family does not want their identities revealed. So Johnny's family doesn't want to get the attention yet he's caused a whirlwind of reaction in the store he works at. His checkout line wraps around the frozen food isle while all other lines are empty, and his family doesn't want any attention. Yet Johnny calls Barbara up to tell her all about it. Yes, this all fits with a family that doesn't want to draw any attention.

If this were a true story and he really did cause such a change in the store, someone, somewhere in that town would have mentioned it independently or connected Barbara's story with their grocery store. Someone in the town would have said, "Hey, that's about us". It probably would have been on the local news.

Aside from Barbara's word, this story is non existence. Johnny's family has done such a great job of keeping their identity a secret that nobody else has ever independently mentioned the miraculous story of how a grocery store bagger
with Down syndrome transformed an entire store.

It sure is lucky that Barbara has the exclusive on this story. You wouldn't want the family telling their story on their own. That would really put a dent in her over priced video training series gravy train.

Hello - Get Real

You must not be a member of Active Rain but that is OK, we like to hear all sides to a story.  I can not prove that this story is factual and you have not proven to me that it is not.  But I do have one for you that I guarantee to be the real deal.  We have a young man at the Baxter, MN Target store that has been handing carts over to entering customers for years.  If the handle is wet, he wipes it off, if he has time between customers in the winter he puts his hands on the handle to warm it up.  He says "Here is a warm one just for you."  He always has a big smile, a kind word, and is absolutely the hit of the store.  He too, has Down Syndrome just like Johnny. When he is not there the store is just not the same. I don't know that he has ever been in the news here nor that he will but he makes the day for many people here and our many summer visitors as well.

Now that is the truth!

Wow! That's all I can think of to say. Just... wow!

You know, I've started posting on blogs of AR members that have left posts on my blogs. Because of this blog I am soooo glad I started doing that. Thank you so much for posting on one of mine, Kathleen. You got me over here and I found a real gem.
