See the American Veterans Traveling Tribute- A Do Not Miss Experience

We had the American Veterans Traveling Tribute stop in our area this summer.  Many of my friends fought in the Vietnam Was.  I went to college with even more veterans  who were back home and getting their education on the G.I. Bill after their service tours were over.  Some of my friends did not make it back and others who did were drastically altered by their experiences in Vietnam.

Because this was was a big part of my growing up years the Vietnam Wall is very special to me.  The traveling memorial is a small version of the wall, but at

                                                    it  makes quite a statement.

The wall was escorted by motorcyclists and the police.  In some areas, there have been as many as 14,000 motorcyclists accompanying the display. Peter Axness, a Vietnam Vet, was one of the escorts.  "It means a great deal to us", Axness said. "A lot of Vietnam Vets got treated pretty poorly when we got home. Me personally. I don't ever want to see that happen again."

    I don't either!

AVTT travels the USA in order to provide a forum for communities to come together to HONOR-RESPECT-REMEMBER all who have sacrificed their lives for our country's freedom. By doing this we also honor all Veterans and those serving today. Because they know they will never be forgotten. We must always separate the War from the Warrior and be never failing in our support for our Men and Women of the Armed Forces.

Gelato in Minnesota? Ya Betcha!

Minnesota is a dairy state and we all know the best places to get a scoop or a sundae. But gelato, gelatoyou have to go to Italy, don't you? Minneapolitans are getting acquainted with the chilly treat, thanks to three enterprising brothers - Tim, Todd and Mike Pellezzer.  They opened two Italian scoop shops in Minneapolis named Sebastian Joe's in honor of their grandfather who practiced the art form in the Old Country.

There are many new flavors that Grandpa Joe never tried : banana yogurt, grapefruit-Campari sorbet and the favorite of most,  Pavarotti.  The Pavarotti mixes gourmet ice cream, carmel, banana and chocolate chips.  Now that is enough to make anyone sing!

Minnesota Home Stager Report - Dining in China

Some of my friends are in China at the Olympics. What fun I think and here I am in Minnesota.  Then they send photos - I feel even worse, I am missing all the fun and the beauty. I watched the opening ceremonies on TV and was struck by the artistry and the cohesiveness of all the performers.  Their trim figures, glowing complexions and their endurance and flexibility. What do they eat , that gives them such strength?

Then I get more photos, which I am posting here. I love Minnesota and the food that we eat.  I can watch the Olympics on TV with no problem, while chilling out with my hot-dish, pizza or chow mein. All of a sudden, my world seems much brighter and with a little moisurizer, my complexion glows.

Anyone care to fly to China for supper?

Should I Wait to Have My Home Staged Until After It Has Been On the Market For A Few Weeks?

Very important information for Realtors to be able to present to their clients.

Via Michelle Minch Home Staging Pasadena & Los Angeles, CA:

You may as well ask "Should I wait to have my home staged until after the listing is stale and I am forced to make a price reduction?" Huh?

As a Professional Home Stager, I am often asked if it is wise to list a home on the MLS, unstaged, for a few weeks to see if it sells, before having it staged. That is like asking if you should wait to bathe and put on your nicest clothes before going out on a first date. The answer, in both instances, depends upon what kind of first impression you want to make! If you are getting a lot of first dates, but not a lot of second dates, you might want to rethink how much effort you put into preparing and presenting yourself. It is the same with selling houses. If you are getting a lot of "lookers" but no "takers" there may be something wrong with your presentation. You must present your home in a way that, makes it desireable and shows off the homes good points while minimizing its challenging points. And you have very little time to make that all important great first impression.

Craftsman Home After Staging. Same home  after staging by Moving Mountains Design. The home sold in less than 2 weeks for full asking price.

It has been estimated that over 80% of home buyers are researching homes on the Internet before going to look at them in person. If your home is not staged prior to listing on the MLS, then the photos home buyers are seeing when they do their research is of a home that just doesn't look that appealing. It has not been properly prepared to make them want to hop in the car to take a look. Photos of staged homes look much better and, lets face it, buyers are attracted to better looking houses. Most buyers want a house that looks as good as the homes they see in magazines and on HGTV shows. They want it, they have come to expect it and by Golly, they are going to hold out until they get it. Your home will be dismissed with the click of a mouse.

The first few weeks that the home is fresh on the MLS is premium time to get potential buyers interested in coming to see your home, and once in your home, interested in making an offer. After a home has been on the MLS for more than a month or so, the listing becomes stale. Potential buyers may wonder if there is something wrong with your home since no one else has seen fit to make an offer to buy. They may wonder if the price is too high, or if the street is too busy, or if there is something wrong with the foundation. They may not bother to come look at it. We are all busy and no one wants to waste time going to look at a home that has problems.

Homes should be staged prior to listing on the MLS. That way, potential buyers are seeing photos of a home that looks warm, inviting and desirable. It looks ready to move in. It looks like it can support the lifestyle they want to have in their new home. Once in the home, the buyers' expectations that made them want to see the home in the first place can be met, and possibly exceeded by what they see, smell & feel. Many professional real estate stagers are trained in how to make a home look, smell & feel its best. We know how to make a home feel warm and welcoming, while evoking a feeling in the potential buyer that they have found "their" home. We can help the homeowner prepare for moving, while preparing the home for sale. And many of us offer "after" photos of the home after staging to be used by the Listing Agent on the MLS and other marketing materials. Professional Home Stagers don't sell homes, but we know what makes homes sell!

Mini-ponds

"What is a mini-pond", you may ask "and why would I want one?". Mini-ponds are a mini-ponds a mini-ecosystem and you only need a container that holds at least four gallons of water.  It is a good start to water gardening without a major committment and the expense.  A large permanent pond can easily cost over $10,000.

For a container try a salvaged claw-foot bathtub, a galvanized horse trough or an old whisky barrel.  Water plants are available at larger garden centers along with some electrical accessories.  Fish can be inexpensive gold fish, one male betta ( not 2) or you could splurge on a few koi.

Self Contained Bundles of Sunshine

Year around self-contained bundles of sunshine, holding a list of immune boosting nutrients and antioxidants that go well beyond a large dose of Vitamin C.  We are talking citrus, baby!  Even in the shortest, darkest most frigid Minnesota winter, citrus emerges in the produce departments.  Ruby Red Grapefruit, Meyer Lemons, Key Limes and Blood Oranges are a few of the favorites.  Easy to pack and goorange and lemon, even their colors please the eye.

Fairly long lasting (especially their faux counterparts) they also make excellent pops of color for home staging purposes.

Eat some and display the rest, you will have the best of both worlds.

Minnesota Home Stager Report - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Blondie      The Good, The Bad and The Ugly- which one of these terms best describe your property?  If it is going on the market - the bad and the ugly need to change.  I know change is hard and sometimes painful, but it is for the best.

You see, prospective buyers have the power to choose.  They will not choose the ugly with its outdated rust shag carpet, dark faux wood paneling and blue toilet. Why should they, when they can choose a pristine updated move- in ready good?

Surely they won't choose the bad, with a leaky roof and stained ceilings.  There is probably a good just down the block which shows well and has no bargaining chips for them to stress over.

If you are getting ready to sell and are willing to make changes - call Re$ale Design & Home Staging in the Brainerd Lakes area of Minnesota. For your leaky roof call  Quality Roof Systems.  Tell them Blondie sent you!
